Who We Are
Advancing the market for sustainable seafood
Seafood Choices Alliance is an international program that provides leadership and creates opportunities for change across the seafood industry and ocean conservation community. Founded in the United States in 2001, Seafood Choices helps the seafood industry— from fishermen and fish farmers to processors, distributors, retailers, restaurants, and food service providers —to make the seafood marketplace environmentally, economically and socially sustainable. We're about synergies and identifying creative solutions to long-held challenges. By building relationships and stimulating dialogue, Seafood Choices is encouraging and challenging all sectors of the seafood industry along the road toward sustainability.
Seafood Choices Alliance seeks to collaboratively find solutions that empower a responsible seafood industry to make positive change by convening and connecting stakeholders, facilitating dialogue, and using strategic communications to help cut through complexity.
Mission
To harness market forces around the globe in support of ocean conservation
Our vision is a world where all those affiliated with the seafood industry—from fishermen, fish farmers and distributors, to retailers, restaurants and consumers—act on the belief that a healthy ocean is vital to human life and essential to ensuring a sustainable supply of seafood for all to enjoy.
Current Initiatives
Seafood Choices Alliance is involved in a number of initiatives that convene and connect leaders to navigate trends, cut through the complexity, fill gaps in knowledge, showcase best practices, build capacity and promote relationships. For more information, visit our Current Initiatives page.
Governance
Seafood Choices Alliance is a program of SeaWeb, a non-profit organization founded in 1996. Since 1999, SeaWeb has been an independent 501(c)3 in the United States that receives funding through foundations, donations, and a variety of other sources. SeaWeb also became a 1901 association in France in 2007 and a registered charity in the United Kingdom in 2008. SeaWeb is led by Chair and President Dawn M. Martin and a distinguished Board of Directors.
Environmental Policy
Pollution and greenhouse gas emissions have profound, negative effects on living creatures on land and in the sea. Seafood Choices Alliance, along with all programs of SeaWeb, works to reduce our energy and resource use and purchases renewable energy credits to offset the organization’s air and automobile travel.
